The benefactor of the Hoe-Down is Connecticut Sports Foundation. This foundation has been providing financial relief for cancer patients throughout Connecticut, right in our own backyard. Not only does the Connecticut Sports Foundation help with the overwhelming medical bills, it also provides financial relief with the daily living expenses, such as mortgage payments, utilities, and transportation expenses. Often, a family struggling with the fight against cancer suffers a loss of income since job attendance is impaired by chemotherapy, radiation treatments and days of feeling unwell.
This gesture of support not only eases the financial burden for a family, it shows that the family is supported throughout their fight. One recipient of the Foundation's work is Bryon Schiffres, who was diagnosed at the age of 2-1/2 years old with a malignant tumor in his brain. He has had surgery and five different chemotherapy regimens over the past five years. The Foundation continues to support his loving family, so their focus can be on Byron's fight for his life, not finances. Click here to read Byron's full story.
You can help support the Hoe-Down as a participant, corporate sponsor, or donor. What may seem small to you can make a huge difference to a family who is struggling. For additional details on how we are celebrating and changing lives, click here.
